Honor Reveals Magic9 Pro Max Design and Preps Dual 200MP Cameras

Honor has officially shown the exterior of the Honor Magic9 Pro Max, the first Magic-series model to carry the Pro Max name. At the same time, a detailed specification list surfaced online: according to insiders, the phone will pack two 200MP cameras, an 8,800 mAh battery and a new Qualcomm flagship processor. For Honor this is the most visible shift in design language in years, as the company has dropped the round camera housing it used on the Magic8.

A camera housing inspired by ARRI cine cameras

Instead of a round island, the Magic9 Pro Max uses a rectangular camera housing that spans the full width of the body and mixes circular elements with a straight base. The main lens takes up more than half the width of the phone, with two additional modules placed next to it. According to Honor, the arrangement references the 1937 ARRIFLEX cine camera and its three-lens turret, and the partnership with ARRI extends to image processing as well.

Honor has trimmed the bezels around the display to roughly 1 mm. The right edge carries two separate keys: an AI button for quick access to AI features and a dedicated camera button. The phone is being prepared in three restrained finishes, while the standard Magic9 gets a noticeably brighter palette.

Two 200MP cameras

The main module is built around a 200MP 1/1.28" sensor with an f/1.57 lens and stabilisation that compensates for up to three degrees of deflection.

The periscope telephoto also uses a 200MP sensor, though a smaller 1/1.4" one, paired with an f/2.6 aperture. That combination means zoomed shots should hold detail close to the main camera instead of dropping off sharply, as they tend to on flagships with 50MP telephoto units.

The set is rounded out by a 50MP ultrawide module and a 55MP selfie camera with a square sensor, which allows landscape shots without rotating the phone.

Display, platform and battery life

According to insiders, the Magic9 Pro Max will use a 6.8-inch LTPO OLED display with a resolution of 2868 × 1320 pixels and a 120 Hz refresh rate. LTPO drops the refresh rate to minimal values in static scenarios, which directly affects power draw.

The phone is said to be built on Qualcomm's new flagship processor, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6. It is worth noting that different sources refer to this chip by different names, so Honor will only confirm the final branding at the launch event.

Battery capacity is estimated at 8,800 mAh with support for 100 W wired charging and 80 W wireless charging.

Dust and water protection is listed under three standards at once: IP68, IP69 and IP69K. Audio is handled by a pair of symmetrical 12 × 16 mm speakers, the same as on the Magic8 Pro.

The phone relies on two unlocking methods at once: an ultrasonic under-display fingerprint scanner and 3D face recognition, which the standard Magic9 does not get.

The Magic9 series will be unveiled on September 28 in China. Honor has not announced pricing yet, and no global launch timing has been given.
