HONOR Unveils Magic9 Pro Max With Dual 200MP Cameras Co-Developed With ARRI
HONOR has unveiled the HONOR Magic9 Pro Max, a new Magic-series flagship built around video capture. The phone combines two 200MP cameras (the main sensor and a periscope telephoto), color processing co-developed with cinema camera maker ARRI, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chip and an 8,800mAh battery. HONOR says it is the only bar-style phone compatible with ARRI's full workflow, from the log profile to the official cinema LUTs.
Two 200MP Cameras and an In-House H1 Chip
The main camera uses a 200MP 1/1.28" sensor with an f/1.57 aperture and optical stabilization. HONOR claims CIPA 8.0-level stabilization and up to 3° of correction, which it likens to a gimbal. A second 200MP sensor, measuring 1/1.4", sits in a periscope telephoto with an f/2.6 aperture, 3.5x optical zoom and the same optical stabilization. A 50MP ultra-wide camera with autofocus completes the setup.
Image processing is handled by HONOR's own H1 chip, built on a 6nm process. It reduces noise at the RAW stage to preserve more detail before the main processing pipeline. The 55MP front camera shoots in a square 1:1 format, so the frame orientation can be chosen after capture, and it is paired with a 3D sensor for face recognition.
ARRI-Style Video
Video is the main focus of the new model. The rear cameras record 4K at up to 120fps, while the ARRI partnership centers on color science and a professional workflow.
ARRI LogC3. The phone records video with the ARRI LogC3 log curve, leaving more room for color grading. It also supports importing the complete ARRI Look Library of 87 official looks, which must be downloaded separately from the HONOR or ARRI website.
Directional microphone. HONOR has built a microphone with two sound channels into the body, working on the same principle as an on-camera shotgun mic. According to the company, it can capture sound from up to 20 meters away, and its pickup zone is 84% narrower.
G500 teleconverter. Paired with the 85mm telephoto, the attachment delivers a 500mm equivalent focal length. The more compact G200 weighs 88g and gives a 200mm equivalent; both accessories, along with a SmallRig cage for mounting extra gear, are sold separately.
The stereo speakers use an 8cc sound chamber and the HONOR Sound AI algorithm for spatial audio.
A 10,000-Nit Display
The phone features a 6.8-inch OLED display with a 1320×2868 resolution and an adaptive 1–120Hz refresh rate. Peak brightness reaches 10,000 nits, with up to 2,000 nits across the full screen. To keep the image readable in sunlight, HONOR applied an anti-reflective coating made of 5,600 layers of silicon nitride, which the company says brings reflectance down to 1.5%.
The panel is protected by HONOR's own glass. The manufacturer claims it is 25 times more drop-resistant than ordinary glass, while the coating improves scratch resistance by 15 times. To reduce eye strain, the display uses 4320Hz PWM dimming and carries TÜV Rheinland certifications for low reflection and eye comfort.
Performance and Battery Life
The Magic9 Pro Max runs on the 2nm Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 platform with eight cores: two at 5.01GHz, three at 4.03GHz and three at 3.74GHz. According to Qualcomm, CPU performance is up 13% over the previous generation, the Adreno 850 GPU is 44% faster and the NPU gains 35%. The phone ships with MagicOS 11 based on Android 17.
The 8,800mAh battery (8,600mAh rated) belongs to HONOR's new generation of silicon-carbon cells, with 40% silicon content and an energy density of 1000Wh/L. It supports 100W wired and 80W wireless charging, and can charge other devices over a cable at up to 27W.
Design and Durability
The phone uses a metal unibody design, and the camera module takes its cues from classic ARRI cinema cameras. It has passed lab testing to IP68, IP69 and IP69K standards, which cover submersion as well as high-pressure hot water jets. For unlocking, it offers two 3D methods: an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor and 3D face recognition.
The HONOR Magic9 Pro Max was announced on September 28 in Beijing and went on sale in China the same day. The 12/256GB version costs 6,499 yuan (~$910), 12/512GB is 6,999 yuan (~$980), 16/512GB is 7,499 yuan (~$1,050) and 16GB/1TB is 8,499 yuan (~$1,190). HONOR will announce international availability separately.
