Samsung Unveils Galaxy A18 4G With New Exynos 1610 Chipset

Samsung has officially unveiled the Galaxy A18 4G, a new entry-level smartphone in the Galaxy A series that succeeds last year's Galaxy A17 4G. The biggest surprise in the announcement is the chipset: instead of the familiar MediaTek Helio G99 used in the A15, A16, and A17, the new model runs on Samsung's own Exynos 1610. The rest of the device sticks to the series' established formula, with a large AMOLED display, a sizeable battery, and long-term software support.

Display and design

The Galaxy A18 4G features a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display with FHD+ resolution (1080×2340 pixels) and a refresh rate of up to 90Hz. The panel uses Samsung's Infinity-U design with a waterdrop notch for the front camera. The chassis has flat edges with rounded corners, matching the current Galaxy design language. Compared to its predecessor, dust and splash protection has improved: the Galaxy A17's IP54 rating gives way to IP64 on the new model.

Platform and memory

The key change in the new model is the switch to the Exynos 1610 processor, though Samsung has not disclosed detailed specifications for the chip. The base configuration comes with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage, while a 256GB variant is available in select markets.

Camera and battery life

Photography is handled by a triple rear camera setup with a 50-megapixel main sensor, while a 13-megapixel front camera covers selfies and video calls. Battery life is provided by a 5,000mAh cell rated for 1,200 charge cycles. The device supports 25W wired charging, which can top up the battery to 50% in about half an hour.

Software and AI features

The phone runs Android 17 with Samsung's One UI 9.0 on top. Its AI-based tools include an updated Circle to Search and support for Google Gemini.

Circle to Search lets users perform visual lookups directly on the screen without leaving the app they're using.

Built-in support for Google Gemini brings a voice AI assistant for natural-language tasks such as drafting messages and scheduling.

Samsung is promising six generations of Android upgrades and six years of security patches for the Galaxy A18 4G — an unusually long support window for a budget device.

The Galaxy A18 4G has gone on sale in Europe, with Samsung officially announcing it in France, Sweden, and Norway, where it will be marketed as the Galaxy A18 LTE. In France, the 4GB/128GB version costs EUR 279 (~$301), while in Sweden pricing is SEK 3,290 (~$313) for 128GB and SEK 5,190 (~$493) for 256GB.
