TCL Unveils P80 Pro Smartphone With NXTPAPER AMOLED Display
TCL has unveiled the TCL P80 Pro as part of its new P80 series at IFA 2026 in Berlin. The device combines a NXTPAPER display built on an AMOLED panel for the first time, instead of the LCD panels the technology has traditionally used, with a versatile camera setup and long battery life.
Display: NXTPAPER Meets AMOLED for the First Time
The TCL P80 Pro features a 6.83-inch AMOLED display with 1.5K resolution and up to a 120Hz refresh rate, reaching peak brightness of up to 3,200 nits. The panel covers 100% of the DCI-P3 color space, and its bezels are trimmed down to 1.38mm. According to TCL, this marks the first time its proprietary NXTPAPER technology, designed to cut glare and reduce eye strain, has been built on an AMOLED panel rather than the LCD screens used previously.
A dedicated NXTPAPER key switches the display between Paper Mode and a monochrome Max Ink Mode that mimics an e-reader page; the company claims up to seven days of reading time in this mode. The display also carries TÜV Rheinland Full Care Display and SGS eye-comfort certifications, while the Circadian Tone feature gradually adjusts the screen's color temperature throughout the day.
Camera for Everyday Shooting
The main camera on the TCL P80 Pro is a 50MP sensor measuring 1/1.56 inches, with an f/1.88 aperture, 1.0μm pixels, and optical and electronic stabilization (OIS + EIS). It's joined by an 8MP autofocus ultra-wide camera and a 32MP front camera for selfies and video calls. Unlike the flagship P80 Ultra, the P80 Pro does not include a periscope telephoto lens.
Performance, Battery Life and Durability
Powering the phone is the 4nm MediaTek Dimensity 7400 Elite octa-core chipset. The device ships with 8GB of RAM, expandable virtually by up to 16GB, and up to 512GB of built-in storage. A 5,800mAh battery with 45W fast charging keeps it running. The TCL P80 Pro also carries an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance and has passed MIL-STD-810H durability testing. Audio comes from dual stereo speakers with DTS Cinematic Surround Sound support.
AI-powered Smart Features
Circle to Search lets users circle any object on screen with a finger to instantly pull up Google search results without leaving the current app.
The built-in Google Gemini assistant helps with ideas, writing and everyday tasks directly on the device.
Ask AI is triggered with a three-finger swipe-up gesture, letting users ask the assistant a question without opening a separate app.
The AI Smart Translator, powered by Microsoft Azure AI Speech, translates speech in real time to help bridge language barriers.
The TCL P80 Pro goes on sale today, September 3, 2026, across Europe starting at €429 (~$496) for the base 8/256GB configuration. It will reach Latin America in October, while a launch date and pricing for the US market have not yet been announced.
The P80 Pro's design was developed with renowned materials expert Chris Lefteri, with TCL emphasizing a slim, light build and a soft-touch finish. The phone also features a 360° surround antenna for a more stable connection.
According to Stefan Streit, Chief Marketing Officer at TCL Europe, the P80 series reflects the company's ambition to bring more premium mobile experiences and practical value to a wider audience while staying mindful of users' digital wellbeing.
