TCL Unveils P80 Ultra With First AMOLED NXTPAPER Display
TCL has unveiled the P80 Ultra, the flagship model of its P80 lineup and the first smartphone to combine the company's signature NXTPAPER technology with an AMOLED panel. Previously, TCL's paper-like display mode was limited to LCD screens, making the new model the brand's first phone to pair OLED brightness and color with a switchable, eye-friendly monochrome mode.
AMOLED display with NXTPAPER mode
The P80 Ultra features a 6.83-inch AMOLED display with 1.5K resolution and up to 120Hz refresh rate. According to the manufacturer, the panel can reach a peak brightness of 3,200 nits and covers up to 100% of the DCI-P3 color space, keeping the screen readable even in direct sunlight. The bezels around the display are narrowed to 1.38mm.
Besides the standard mode, the display supports TCL's NXTPAPER technology, which turns the screen into an e-paper-like surface for comfortable reading. Users switch between modes using a dedicated hardware key. TCL says the panel has received SGS certification for eye comfort and is protected by Nano Crystal Shield tempered glass with an anti-glare coating.
Triple camera with a periscope telephoto lens
The P80 Ultra's camera system is built around a 50-megapixel main sensor measuring 1/1.56 inches, with an f/1.88 aperture, optical image stabilization and large 1.0µm pixels (2.0µm after pixel binning). The key difference from the lower-tier models in the series is a 50-megapixel periscope telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom, optical stabilization and 6x lossless zoom. An 8-megapixel ultra-wide camera rounds out the rear setup, while a 32-megapixel front camera handles selfies.
Performance and battery life
The smartphone runs on the MediaTek Dimensity 7400 Elite chipset, built on a 4nm process. It ships with 8GB of RAM, expandable by another 16GB using storage space, and offers up to 512GB of built-in storage. Power comes from a 5,800mAh battery with 45W fast charging. The body carries IP68 dust and water resistance and meets the MIL-STD-810H military durability standard.
AI features and software
The phone supports Google Gemini, a voice assistant that helps with information search, planning and idea generation directly from the device interface.
Circle to Search from Google lets users circle any object on screen with a finger to get instant search results without leaving the app.
The built-in AI Smart Translator, powered by Microsoft Azure AI Speech technology, translates speech in real time during calls and conversations.
TCL unveiled the P80 Ultra on September 3, 2026, at IFA in Berlin. Sales start in Europe, with the base 8GB/256GB configuration priced from €549 (~$640). The device is expected to reach Latin America and the US at a later date.
