Sony Xperia 10 VIII Design Surfaces Ahead of Launch: Almost No Visual Changes
Sony is preparing to introduce a new Xperia smartphone, and an image published ahead of the event has revealed the look of the Xperia 10 VIII. Based on the picture, the company has not reworked the design: the handset closely follows last year's Xperia 10 VII, keeping the recognisable elongated body and the familiar placement of its controls. Sony has not named the device it plans to unveil, so the model identification still relies on unofficial information.
A familiar look carried over
The rear panel shows a horizontal camera island housing two modules along with the Sony logo, and an NFC mark sits just below it. The approach suggests the company is once again relying on the series' recognisability rather than a visual refresh, which makes the new model hard to tell apart from its predecessor at a glance.
The fingerprint scanner remains built into the power button on the right frame, next to the volume rocker.
The fate of the dedicated camera shutter key found on the Xperia 10 VII is unclear.
What is known about the hardware
The Xperia 10 VIII previously appeared on Geekbench, which is the source of the first details about its internals. According to that listing, the phone runs on the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3, meaning Sony has stuck with the same platform used in the previous model, so a significant performance jump for this generation is unlikely.
The tested unit came with 8GB of RAM. The Xperia 10 VII was sold in a single 8GB/128GB configuration, so it remains unclear whether the manufacturer will widen the range of memory options this time. On the software side, the phone is based on Android 16.
The new Xperia smartphone will be introduced on August 25 at 11:00 Japan time.
