Acer Unveils Googlebook 14, the First Convertible Googlebook
Acer has unveiled the Acer Googlebook 14, its first laptop running the new Googlebook OS platform, which builds Gemini features in at the system level. The model opens a new category of flagship Google laptops for the company and is also the first convertible Googlebook, pairing a 14-inch OLED touchscreen with Intel Core Ultra Series 3 processors and close integration with Android phones.
What Googlebook OS Brings
The system is built around several input methods working side by side: keyboard, touchpad, touchscreen, stylus and voice. Gemini looks at what is on the screen and suggests context-aware actions, while a number of the new features focus on making the laptop and phone work as one.
Magic Pointer summons Gemini with a quick wiggle of the cursor. You can then select anything on the screen to ask about it, compare options or create new content.
Continue On lets you start a task on an Android phone and pick it up on the laptop exactly where you left off.
Cast My Apps opens phone apps directly on the Googlebook without installing them on the laptop.
Both syncing features require setup and work with phones running Android 17 or later. A dedicated dictation key launches voice typing that strips out filler words and formats the text automatically. Google Play provides the app and game catalog, and demanding PC titles can be streamed through GeForce NOW.
Buyers also get 12 months of Google AI Pro, with expanded access to Gemini and 5 TB of cloud storage. The offer is limited to Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States, and must be redeemed by March 31, 2027.
"The new Acer Googlebook 14 puts intuitive and powerful tools with Gemini Intelligence at the fingertips of anyone wanting to boost their creativity and productivity. As a long-standing leader in Chromebooks since their inception 15 years ago, Acer is thrilled to continue our alliance with Google to launch this brand-new category of premium, AI-ready laptops," said James Lin, General Manager, Notebooks, Acer Inc.
Display and Audio
The laptop features a 14-inch OLED display with a 2880×1800 resolution, a 16:10 aspect ratio and a 120 Hz refresh rate. The panel covers 100% of the DCI-P3 color space, reaches 500 nits and carries VESA DisplayHDR True Black certification, making it suitable for photo editing and video as well as everyday work. Corning Gorilla Glass protects the screen from scratches, and the touch layer supports USI 2.0 styluses, which are sold separately.
Sound comes from two upward-facing Acer Ultra Boost speakers tuned by DTS. For video calls, there is a 5 MP webcam with noise reduction and a physical privacy shutter, backed by a triple microphone array.
Convertible Design
With 360-degree hinges, the Googlebook 14 works in four modes: as a regular laptop, in tent mode for watching video, in stand mode for presentations and as a tablet for note-taking. According to Acer, the hinges are rated for 20,000 open and close cycles, and the laptop is certified to the MIL-STD 810H military standard.
The chassis is made from an aluminum-magnesium alloy in Elemental Blue. The laptop is 13.9 mm thick and weighs 1.14 kg. A light strip called Glowbar on the lid changes colors and patterns to indicate battery level and charging status. The palm rest and bottom cover use Acer's soft-touch Comfort Touch finish, the touchpad is covered with Gorilla Glass and resists moisture, and the keyboard is backlit.
The design uses 49% circular materials, and the packaging is 99% plastic-free. The model has an EPEAT Climate+ designation and Energy Star 9.0 certification.
Performance and Battery Life
The laptop is available with an Intel Core Ultra 5 325 or Intel Core Ultra 7 355 processor. In its press release, Acer quotes up to 50 TOPS for the NPU, the unit that handles on-device AI tasks and takes load off the CPU and GPU. Memory goes up to 32 GB of LPDDR5X, with up to 512 GB of PCIe 4.0 storage.
Acer rates the 71 Wh battery at up to 16 hours of web browsing and up to 14 hours of video playback. Fast charging tops it up to 50% in 30 minutes and 80% in an hour through any of the three USB-C ports.
Connectivity and Security
One of the three USB-C ports supports Thunderbolt 4 with up to 40 Gbps and 100 W, while the other two are USB 3.2 Gen 2. The ports are split between both sides of the chassis, so chargers and peripherals can be connected from whichever side is more convenient. Wireless connectivity is handled by Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.0. Security features include a fingerprint reader built into the power button and a Google Titan C security chip.
The Acer Googlebook 14 (GP714-91N) will go on sale in North America in October 2026 starting at $899, in EMEA also in October starting at €1,199 (~$1,400), and in Australia in November starting at AUD 2,599 (~$1,700).
