ASUS Introduces ROG Strix XG27UCMG, the World's First 4K Triple-Mode Monitor

ASUS has introduced the ROG Strix XG27UCMG, a 27-inch display the company calls the world's first 4K monitor with Triple Mode technology. Instead of choosing between sharpness and speed at purchase, players switch modes on the monitor itself: 4K at 240Hz, QHD up to 400Hz, or Full HD up to 488Hz when overclocked.

Three modes instead of two monitors

The point of Triple Mode is to cover different genres with a single device. Story-driven games and graphics work stay at the full 3840 × 2160, while competitive shooters trade resolution for a higher refresh rate. Until now that compromise meant either two monitors on the desk or giving up one of the two scenarios.

Image quality and signature features

The display covers 95% of the DCI-P3 gamut and carries VESA DisplayHDR 400 certification, leaving headroom in color saturation and contrast for HDR video and games.

ASUS Smart Pixel processes the image for finer detail, which shows most clearly when running at the lower resolutions.

A built-in KVM switch with hotkey access lets a single keyboard and mouse control two connected systems.

The ROG Gaming AI package bundles AI Visual, Dynamic Shadow Boost and Dynamic Crosshair, ranging from automatic image tuning to brightening dark areas of a scene.

Settings are managed through ASUS DisplayWidget Center, which also handles automatic firmware updates and lets users move a configuration between devices. Connectivity covers DisplayPort 1.4 with DSC, HDMI 2.1, USB-C with 15-watt Power Delivery and two USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports.
