Huawei Unveils Ultralight MateBook Pro S Laptop Weighing 798 Grams
Huawei has expanded its HarmonyOS computer line-up with an ultralight notebook called MateBook Pro S. Its magnesium-lithium alloy chassis weighs 798 grams, yet the company did not shrink the screen or the battery to get there. The laptop runs on Huawei's own Kirin XE90 processor and comes in versions whose display can hide its contents from anyone sitting nearby.
A light chassis that keeps full-size proportions
The notebook measures 310.8 × 220.8 mm and is 11.9 mm thick. To stay below 800 grams, Huawei moved the internal structural parts to a magnesium-lithium alloy and used a mortise and tenon joint that, according to the company, considerably improves resistance to deformation. The mainboard was split into three sections, which allowed a denser layout without adding thickness.
A display with a hardware privacy mode
The MateBook Pro S uses a 14.2-inch flexible OLED panel with a 3:2 aspect ratio, a resolution of 3120 × 2080 pixels and a 120 Hz refresh rate. Peak brightness reaches 1,600 nits in HDR, and the screen occupies 93.5% of the lid. The 3:2 shape leaves more vertical room, which pays off in documents, spreadsheets and code.
Models with the Lingdun screen rely on a dual-pixel structure that narrows the viewing angles. The mode is toggled by a dedicated hardware key on the right edge, so switching between private and normal viewing takes no trip into the settings.
Processor, cooling and battery life
The laptop is built around the Kirin XE90 processor. Huawei states that, compared with the Kirin X90, it is 23% faster in single-threaded work, 25% more power efficient and delivers 40% higher NPU performance. Sustained loads are handled by a cooling system with a thin aluminium fan that carries 102 blades.
The 54 Wh battery charges over USB-C at up to 66 W, and the notebook itself can pass power on to other devices. Huawei claims up to 18 hours of video playback. Connectivity is minimal, though: there are two USB Type-C ports of the USB 3.2 Gen 1 standard, and only the right one drives an external monitor.
HarmonyOS 6.1 and the AI features
The MateBook Pro S runs HarmonyOS 6.1, so its software is built around Huawei's own ecosystem rather than Windows. For buyers outside China that is the main catch, because compatibility with familiar desktop applications remains a question for the platform.
The Celia assistant has gained a task system that performs multi-step actions on the user's behalf, such as building a page, filling in a form or drafting a weekly report from a short description.
HarmonyOS Connect handles the link with other Huawei devices, including file transfers and one-tap network sign-in.
The notebook was shown on 5 August 2026 at a conference dedicated to HarmonyOS computers, sales began on 14 August, and the Lingdun screen and Collector's Edition versions reached stores on 28 August. For now the model is sold in China only.
Alongside the standard build there are a matte-screen version weighing 805 grams and a Collector's Edition weighing 825 grams. The latter is 12.2 mm thick, finishes its rear panel in leather and includes a HUAWEI M-Pen 3 stylus in the box.
The entry configuration with 16 GB of memory and 512 GB of storage costs 7,999 yuan (~$1,180), the matte-screen version is priced at 9,999 yuan (~$1,475), Lingdun screen models start at 10,299 yuan (~$1,520), and the Collector's Edition with 32 GB and 1 TB costs 14,999 yuan (~$2,210).
