Huawei Opens Mate XT 2 Pre-Orders and Reveals Versions With Up to 2TB

Huawei has opened pre-orders for the Mate XT 2 in China and officially revealed the colours and memory configurations of its next tri-folding smartphone. The pre-order listing also confirmed structural changes that set the new model apart from earlier devices in the Mate XT series.

Three colours, four configurations

The phone comes in three finishes: Dark Black, Pure White and Jin Purple. Every version has a marble-style pattern on the back panel. Last year's Mate XTs | Ultimate Design was offered in four colours, so the palette has been trimmed this time around.

The memory line-up, on the other hand, has expanded. All configurations carry 16GB of RAM, while storage is offered at 512GB, 1TB or 2TB. The two larger options are listed separately, and they differ by more than capacity alone.

The 1TB and 2TB configurations come with the Spirit Shield privacy display, which narrows the viewing angle and makes it harder to read the screen from the side. Huawei has previously used the same technology in its laptops.

The top 2TB version is available only in Jin Purple and ships with a stylus in the box. Huawei has not given this configuration a separate name yet, so its positioning should become clearer after the official presentation. Pricing has not been announced for any of the variants.

Inward folding and a cover screen

Instead of the Z-shaped layout used by its predecessors, the Mate XT 2 adopts a Wing Fold structure, in which the two side sections fold inward and enclose the flexible main display.

As a result, the phone gains a proper cover display for the first time in the series, so calls, messages and payments can be handled without unfolding the larger internal screen.

Huawei highlights the symmetry of the body, which is meant to distribute weight more evenly when the device is opened. According to the company, the unfolded phone measures 3.5mm at its thinnest point despite carrying two displays. The hinge and the screens have been reinforced to better withstand everyday use. The rear panel houses an octagonal camera block, similar in shape to the one on the original Mate XT.

What remains unconfirmed

Huawei has not disclosed the key hardware specifications. Insider sources point to a Kirin-series processor and a 6,000mAh battery, but neither claim has official confirmation. Expectations around HarmonyOS 7 and its multitasking features tailored to the large screen also remain unverified.

The Huawei Mate XT 2 will be officially presented on September 7 in China, and pre-orders are already open through the company's online store and authorised retail partners.
