Huawei Unveils nova 16s With a 7,000mAh Battery

Huawei has unveiled the nova 16s, a new addition to the nova lineup built around long battery life and refined photography. The device features a bright OLED display with peak brightness of up to 5,500 nits, a triple camera setup with a periscope telephoto lens, and a 7,000mAh battery that Huawei describes as one of the largest in the series.

A display built to stand out

The nova 16s comes with a 6.68-inch OLED display at FHD+ resolution (2800 × 1280 pixels), a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz, and a touch sampling rate of up to 300 Hz. The panel supports 2160 Hz PWM dimming for more comfortable viewing in low light, covers 1.07 billion colours within the P3 gamut, and can reach a peak brightness of up to 5,500 nits. Despite this, the body is just 7.3 mm thick and weighs approximately 199 g, keeping the phone easy to handle throughout the day.

Cameras built for portraits and zoom

The rear camera setup combines a 50-megapixel Ultra Vision main sensor with an F1.9 aperture and autofocus, alongside a 50-megapixel RYYB periscope telephoto lens with an F2.6 aperture and optical image stabilisation, delivering 3.3x optical and up to 100x digital zoom. A dedicated True-to-Colour multispectral sensor is also included to improve skin tone accuracy and detail in portrait shots. The front camera uses a 50-megapixel Ultra Portrait sensor with an F2.4 aperture and a large 1/2.5-inch sensor size.

Performance and battery life

Processing is handled by an octa-core Kirin 8020 chipset running EMUI 16.0. The phone is offered with 256 GB or 512 GB of built-in storage. Its standout feature remains the 7,000mAh battery (typical value; rated capacity is 6,800mAh), which supports 100 W HUAWEI SuperCharge Turbo fast charging. Huawei also states the slim body incorporates a vapour chamber cooling system to help maintain performance under sustained load.

Smart features

AI Composition and AI Move help frame shots automatically and let users reposition or resize subjects within a photo.

Two-way call noise cancellation filters out background noise on both ends of a conversation, keeping calls clearer in loud environments.

AI Gesture Control lets users scroll with a wave of the hand or take a photo by making a fist, without touching the screen.

The Celia voice assistant can handle calls, set reminders, find routes, and answer everyday questions.

The nova 16s was unveiled globally on September 2, 2026, at Huawei's "Chase the Wild" event in Munich during IFA 2026, where the company also introduced the higher-end nova 16s Pro and new wearable devices.
