Huawei Nova 16 SE Debuts With an 8,500mAh Battery and 8,000-Nit Display
Huawei has officially unveiled the nova 16 SE, a new addition to the nova 16 lineup built around battery life and display brightness. The phone packs an 8,500mAh battery and a 6.84-inch OLED display with a claimed peak brightness of up to 8,000 nits, becoming the fifth and, it seems, final model in the nova 16 series for 2026.
Display and Battery Life
The nova 16 SE is built around a flat OLED panel with a 2756 × 1272 resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and 1440Hz PWM dimming support.
Huawei claims the display can reach a peak local brightness of up to 8,000 nits in select areas of the screen.
Battery duties are handled by an 8,500mAh silicon-carbon cell, which supports 66W wired fast charging.
Performance
The phone runs on Huawei's own Kirin 8020 chipset, an octa-core processor with one performance core at 2.285GHz, three mid cores at 2.05GHz, and four efficiency cores at 1.3GHz, paired with a Mali-G920 GPU. The nova 16 SE comes with 8GB of RAM and up to 512GB of storage.
Cameras and Connectivity
The main camera uses a 50MP RYYB sensor measuring 1/1.56 inches with optical image stabilization, joined by a 1.5MP Red Maple color sensor for improved color accuracy. The front camera is rated at 32MP.
The phone supports two-way satellite messaging via the BeiDou system, letting users send and receive messages outside of cellular network coverage.
Other connectivity features include Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, NFC, an IR blaster, and a side-mounted fingerprint scanner. The body carries an IP65 rating for dust and water resistance.
Pricing and Availability
Pricing for the Huawei nova 16 SE in China starts at CNY 2,499 (~$370) for the 128GB model, while the 256GB and 512GB versions cost CNY 2,699 (~$400) and CNY 3,199 (~$475), respectively. The phone is already available to order through Huawei's official online store in China, with deliveries set to begin next week.
