Samsung Starts Mass Production of PCIe 6.0 PM1763 SSD Built for AI Servers
Samsung Electronics has begun mass production of PM1763, an enterprise SSD built on the PCIe 6.0 interface and designed for AI and high-performance computing (HPC) servers. The drive is meant to speed up data transfer between processors and accelerators in data centers, where the volume of data needed for AI training and inference keeps growing rapidly.
More Than Double the Speed of Its Predecessor
PM1763 is built on Samsung's 9th-generation V-NAND and a newly developed 4-nanometer controller. It comes in three capacities — 4TB, 8TB and 16TB. The top-tier 16TB model reaches sequential read speeds of up to 28,400 MB/s and write speeds of up to 21,900 MB/s, more than double the performance of its predecessor, PM1753.
That throughput is enough to transfer a 40GB large language model in roughly 1.4 seconds, cutting data latency between processors and accelerators in AI clusters.
Built for Liquid-Cooled, Power-Efficient Servers
The drive is optimized for liquid-cooled server environments through direct-to-chip (D2C) cooling technology, allowing it to sustain peak performance under prolonged heavy workloads. Power efficiency has improved by more than 1.8 times compared to its predecessor, helping lower overall data center operating costs.
Security Designed for the Post-Quantum Era
To meet growing security demands in AI infrastructure, PM1763 supports post-quantum cryptography (PQC) algorithms designed to withstand future quantum computing threats, along with the TDISP protocol, which secures data pathways in virtualized environments.
Mass production of PM1763 began on July 8, 2026, in Korea. Samsung Electronics Vice President Jangseok Choi said the drive has completed validation for next-generation AI platforms and is positioned to help customers scale memory capacity as AI models grow more complex.
