Motorola Unveils Edge 70 Plus With a 200MP Camera at IFA 2026

At IFA 2026 in Berlin, Motorola showed the motorola edge 70 plus, a phone built around a 200MP main camera, the highest sensor resolution the brand has ever shipped. It arrives with a quad-curved body, a 6500mAh battery and the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 platform, so the company is betting on photography, endurance and long gaming sessions at once.

Camera and image processing

The main module comes with optical stabilisation, Pantone Validated colour calibration, 10x Super Zoom and 4K video capture. Motorola's own footnotes clarify that the sensor merges 16 pixels into one, so the effective resolution of a finished shot is 12.5MP. That approach is standard for very high resolution sensors and mainly serves low-light shooting. A second module handles macro photography.

Photo Enhancement Engine processes each frame automatically and pulls out fine detail without any manual tweaking of capture settings.

The front camera has a 32MP sensor that outputs 8MP images after pixel binning, and records 4K video with adaptive stabilisation. Selfie processing is handled by algorithms that adjust skin tones and facial expression.

Turning the phone to landscape orientation switches the front camera to group mode on its own, widening the field of view.

Battery life and charging

The battery is rated at 6500mAh by typical capacity and 6300mAh by guaranteed minimum. Motorola estimates that a single charge covers roughly 42 hours of calls, 34 hours of video playback or 23 hours of social media, though those figures come from the company's own testing under optimal conditions. Wired TurboPower charging runs at 45W.

Bypass charging in Gametime mode feeds the phone straight from the charger to cut heat and slow battery wear during play.

Display, audio and performance

The 6.78-inch Extreme AMOLED panel supports a 144Hz refresh rate and Pantone Validated calibration, so colours should match what the creator intended. Peak brightness is claimed to reach 5200 nits, which matters for readability in direct sunlight. Audio comes from two stereo speakers with Hi-Res certification and Dolby Atmos support.

The Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 platform is paired with 8GB of LPDDR5X memory and 128GB or 256GB of storage, while a vapour chamber cooling system keeps performance stable under sustained load. RAM Boost can borrow part of the storage for virtual memory when needed. On the software side, Google Gemini and Circle to Search are both available.

Design and durability

The quad-curved body removes sharp edges, and the finish options include acetate along with leather-inspired and silk-inspired materials. The palette was developed together with the Pantone Color Institute. The phone has been tested to the MIL-STD-810H standard for resistance to temperature swings, humidity and altitude, the screen is covered by Corning Gorilla Glass 7i, and IP64 certification protects against dust and splashes.

The announcement took place on 3 September 2026 at IFA 2026 in Berlin. Sales start in the coming weeks in selected countries across Europe and the Middle East, with European retailers listing the 256GB version at 599.99 euros (~$700).
