POCO Confirms September 4 India Launch for X8 and X8 Power

POCO has officially confirmed that two new smartphones are coming to India: the POCO X8 and the POCO X8 Power. Both models are built around endurance, with the higher-end version carrying a 10,000mAh battery that the company describes as the largest it has ever used, while the base model gets a 9,000mAh cell. In the current lineup the pair will sit below the X8 Pro and X8 Pro Max, which means the main selling point here is running time rather than raw performance.

Endurance as the main pitch

The official teasers reveal very little, but they focus squarely on the battery. A 10,000mAh cell is still rare in the mid-range segment, and for the X8 series it marks a clear step up: the pricier X8 Pro Max ships with a smaller 8,500mAh battery.

The 10,000mAh battery in the X8 Power: POCO claims a single charge lasts roughly 3.5 days, although real-world endurance will depend on how the phone is used.

The rear panel of the X8 Power uses faux leather. Teasers show the phone in a yellow finish with a black squircle camera housing that holds two modules.

The standard POCO X8 gets a 9,000mAh battery. Published images show it in orange and white finishes, with the two main camera modules arranged vertically.

What the leaks say about the hardware

POCO has not confirmed the rest of the specifications. According to leaks, both phones use a 6.83-inch AMOLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate, 1.5K resolution, peak brightness of up to 3,500 nits and Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection. The differences start with the platform: the base X8 is credited with the Snapdragon 6s Gen 4 and 67W charging, while the X8 Power should move up to the faster Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 and 100W charging.

Both phones are said to be covered by four Android upgrades and six years of security patches, which remains uncommon in this price bracket.

Pricing has not been announced. Insiders estimate the X8 Power at around Rs 35,000 (~$400), which would place both models below the X8 Pro.

How the Indian versions differ from Redmi

Leaks indicate that the POCO X8 is a rebranded Redmi Note 17 Pro, while the X8 Power is based on the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max. The approach is familiar for Xiaomi: identical hardware is sold under different brands depending on the market and sales channel, with POCO traditionally focused on online retail.

The key detail about the Indian versions concerns the battery. The global Redmi Note 17 Pro lost some capacity and shipped with an 8,340mAh cell instead of the 9,000mAh unit used in the Chinese model, whereas the India-bound POCO X8 keeps the full 9,000mAh. The X8 Power matches the capacity of the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max. The remaining differences come down to presentation: POCO's own colour options and the leather-style finish on the back.
