POCO Launches F9 Ultra with Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and 8050mAh Battery

POCO has introduced the POCO F9 Ultra, the most powerful smartphone in the company's history and the top model of the new F9 series. The device pairs the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor with a dedicated VisionBoost D8 graphics chip, and it comes with a 6.9-inch display running at 185Hz, a 200MP main camera and an 8050mAh battery. With this launch, a brand long associated with affordable flagship alternatives moves firmly into the premium segment.

Two chips instead of one

The POCO F9 Ultra is built around the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, manufactured on TSMC's 3nm process. The octa-core chip follows a 2+6 layout with no efficiency cores: two prime cores run at up to 4.6GHz, while the remaining six reach 3.62GHz. The platform is backed by LPDDR5X memory rated at 9600Mbps and UFS 4.1 storage. According to the manufacturer, the phone scores 4,165,108 points in AnTuTu V11.

Alongside the main processor sits a dedicated VisionBoost D8 graphics chip that handles super resolution, frame interpolation and in-game HDR. It allows the phone to reach up to 185 frames per second, and POCO says more than 20 titles support a native 185FPS.

Thermals are managed by the POCO 3D IceLoop cooling system with a 6300mm² vapour chamber and a graphite layer covering 17,820mm². The company states that the 3D bulge above the chipset lowers its temperature by up to 3°C. The WildBoost Engine adjusts scheduling based on the target frame rate, while control precision benefits from an instant touch sampling rate of up to 4800Hz and a gyro sampling rate of up to 200Hz.

M11 panel with peak brightness up to 10,000 nits

The phone uses a 6.9-inch M11 AMOLED panel that debuts in this model. A new green light-emitting material improves luminous efficiency by 20% compared with the POCO F8 Ultra, so brightness rose without a corresponding increase in power draw. Peak brightness reaches 4500 nits across 25% of the display area and 10,000 nits across 1%, while typical brightness stands at 850 nits.

The panel resolves 2608 × 1200 pixels and relies on POCO's HyperRGB subpixel structure, which the company says delivers clarity comparable to 2K screens while consuming less power. The display supports 12-bit colour depth, the DCI-P3 gamut, HDR10+ and Dolby Vision, along with DC dimming across the full brightness range. Corning Gorilla Glass 7i protects the front, and four TÜV Rheinland certificates cover eye comfort.

Cameras

For the first time in the POCO line-up, the phone carries a 200MP main camera with optical stabilisation and an f/1.68 aperture. A six-element lens and 16-in-1 pixel binning allow shooting either at full resolution or with heavy cropping without an obvious loss of detail.

The second module is a 50MP periscope telephoto camera with a 120mm equivalent focal length, 5x optical zoom and stabilisation, and it also handles macro shots from around 30cm. Wide scenes are covered by a 50MP camera with a 17mm equivalent field of view, while selfies rely on a 32MP front module.

The rear cameras record 8K video at 30fps and 4K at up to 60fps, support a log profile and offer slow motion at up to 1920fps. POCO also highlights Live cinematography, a mode that captures a dynamic 4K scene in one tap with an automatic smooth zoom in or out.

8050mAh battery and 100W charging

The POCO F9 Ultra carries an 8050mAh battery, the largest in the POCO F series. High energy density made it possible to fit that cell into a body 8.74mm thick. The manufacturer claims two days of runtime in a mixed usage scenario and more than 80% capacity retention after 1600 charge cycles.

Wired 100W HyperCharge refills the battery completely in roughly 50 minutes, while 50W wireless charging reaches half capacity in 37 minutes. The phone can also power other devices, delivering up to 27W over a cable and up to 22.5W wirelessly.

Audio system tuned by Bose

The audio setup follows a 2.1 configuration: two symmetrical speakers are joined by a separate subwoofer for deeper bass and a wider soundstage. Tuning was handled by Bose engineers, and users can choose between dynamic and balanced sound profiles. The phone holds Hi-Res Audio and Hi-Res Audio Wireless certification and supports Dolby Atmos.

Design and build

The back panel is made of fibreglass, the frame is micro-curved metal, and the camera housing takes the form of a flat metallic plate with a Bose logo. The phone comes in two finishes: classic black and the new Dark Cherry, a deep red with purple undertones. The body measures 163.49 × 77.94 × 8.74mm, weighs 235g and carries IP68 dust and water resistance.

Connectivity

Signal quality is handled by the in-house Xiaomi Surge T1+ tuner working with seven gaming antennas. POCO claims gains of up to 24% for cellular performance, up to 35% for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, and up to 19% for GPS. The phone supports Wi-Fi 7, dual Bluetooth 6.0, and either two SIM cards or eSIM.

Xiaomi Offline Communication enables voice calls between two compatible devices with no network coverage. It works over a limited range in open areas and is not intended for emergency calls.

The POCO F9 Ultra debuted globally on 1 September 2026. In Europe the 12/256GB version costs €1,099.90 (~$1,280), the 16/512GB model €1,199.90 (~$1,395) and the 16GB + 1TB configuration €1,399.90 (~$1,630); early-bird pricing in a number of markets starts at €829.90 (~$965) for the base version.
