POCO Unveils X8 With an 8340mAh Battery
POCO has expanded its X series with the POCO X8, a model built primarily around battery life. The phone combines an 8340mAh silicon-carbon cell with the Snapdragon 6s Gen 4 platform, a 6.83-inch 1.5K AMOLED screen and a body rated for heavy exposure to water and drops.
Battery life as the main argument
The stated capacity is well above the 5000mAh typical of the midrange segment, and silicon-carbon chemistry made it possible to fit that much energy without a major increase in size: the body is 8.6mm thick and weighs 223g. According to POCO's internal testing, a single charge lasts more than two days of moderate use.
Refuelling is handled by 67W HyperCharge. The company cites TÜV SÜD certification and its own calculations, according to which the battery retains at least 80% of its original capacity after 1,600 charge cycles, roughly equivalent to six years of regular use. The phone can also act as a power bank, delivering up to 22.5W to other devices over a cable.
Display
The POCO X8 uses a 6.83-inch AMOLED panel with a resolution of 2772x1280 and a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. Peak brightness is quoted at 3500 nits, typical brightness at 1060 nits, and pixel density at 447 per inch. The panel supports 12-bit colour depth and a wide DCI-P3 gamut.
Touch sampling runs at 240Hz and rises to 3200Hz in Game Turbo mode, which should matter most in games. Eye comfort is handled by DC dimming and 3840Hz PWM dimming, minimum brightness drops to 1 nit, and the panel carries three TÜV Rheinland certificates. The screen is covered by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2.
Performance and software
The phone is built around the Snapdragon 6s Gen 4, made on a 4nm process. It is an octa-core chip clocked at up to 2.4GHz with Adreno graphics. POCO's own measurements put the device at roughly 946,500 points in AnTuTu.
Three memory configurations are offered: 6/128GB, 8/256GB and 12/256GB. The phone uses LPDDR4X memory, with UFS 3.1 storage in the 256GB versions and UFS 2.2 in the base model. Wireless connectivity is the clearest compromise, as only Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.1 are supported. The device runs Xiaomi HyperOS 3, and the company separately claims a like-new software experience for 60 months, citing its own software ageing tests.
Water and drop protection
The manufacturer lists four ingress protection ratings at once: IP66, IP68, IP69 and IP69K. The POCO X8 also holds a TÜV SÜD certificate confirming immersion at up to two metres for 72 hours, along with an SGS certificate for drops from up to three metres onto a granite surface.
Underwater Mode allows photos and video to be captured below the surface, and once the mode is closed the speaker uses vibration to push out any remaining water. The feature arrives with a software update.
Wet Touch Technology 2.0 detects water, oil, foam and sweat on the screen surface and keeps touch input accurate with wet hands.
Cameras and AI editing
The main module carries a 50MP sensor with optical stabilisation and an f/1.8 aperture, paired with a 2MP depth sensor. The front camera has a resolution of 16MP. Video remains the main limitation, since both the rear and front cameras top out at 1080p and 30 frames per second. A dual video mode records from both cameras at the same time.
AI Creativity Assistant bundles a set of photo editing tools, including AI Erase Pro for removing unwanted objects and AI Glare Removal for reflections.
Beyond photo editing, the software includes Circle to Search and the Google Gemini assistant. Some AI features require an internet connection, and their availability may differ by region.
The POCO X8 was introduced globally on 1 September 2026, and the availability of colours and memory configurations depends on the specific region.
