Redmi has launched the budget-friendly Redmi Note 17 in China as the successor to last year's Redmi Note 15. The phone arrived alongside the higher-end Note 17 Pro and is now available in three colours and three memory configurations. Its headline features are a large OLED display and an 8,000mAh battery.

Display and Build

The Redmi Note 17 sports a 7-inch OLED panel with a Full-HD+ resolution of 2,396×1,080 pixels and a pixel density of 376ppi, which Xiaomi says makes it the largest screen ever fitted to a Note-series phone. The display supports up to 120Hz refresh rate, up to 240Hz touch sampling rate, 1,800 nits of peak brightness, DCI-P3 colour coverage, and a 5,000,000:1 contrast ratio. It also features Wet Touch 2.0 technology for reliable touch response with wet fingers, along with Xiaomi's proprietary eye comfort tuning. The body carries an IP65 rating for dust and water resistance.

Performance and Software

Power comes from an octa-core Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 chipset from Qualcomm, built on a 4nm process with a peak clock speed of 2.3GHz, paired with an Adreno GPU. The phone offers up to 8GB of LPDDR4x RAM and up to 256GB of UFS 2.2 storage, running HyperOS 3 based on Android 16. Security is handled via an in-display optical fingerprint sensor and face unlock.

The handset includes an AI Smart Anti-Fraud system that scans incoming calls for scam indicators and warns users in real time, including during NFC-based contactless transactions.

Cameras

On the back, the Redmi Note 17 relies on a single 50-megapixel camera with an f/1.8 aperture, housed in a square module alongside an LED flash. Up front sits an 8-megapixel selfie camera with an f/2.0 aperture in a hole-punch cutout. Both cameras can record video at up to 1080p/30fps.

Battery Life

The phone is powered by Xiaomi's Jinsha River battery with an 8,000mAh capacity and an energy density of up to 821Wh/L. Xiaomi claims the battery can last 2.33 days of mixed use, up to 62 hours of calling, or up to 22 hours of short-video playback on a single charge. It supports 45W wired fast charging and 22.5W reverse wired charging for topping up other devices.

The Redmi Note 17 is now on sale in China through Xiaomi's official online store.

Connectivity options include 5G, 4G LTE, dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.1, GLONASS, Galileo, an IR blaster, and a USB Type-C port. The sensor suite covers an accelerometer, an e-compass, an ambient light sensor, and a proximity sensor.
