Xiaomi Officially Announces Redmi K100 Pro, the First Phone With Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 V Series
Redmi has officially unveiled the Redmi K100 Pro in China. The phone's headline feature is its chip — the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 V Series (SM8850-1-AB), making Redmi one of the first brands to use it. It's a binned version of the full Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5: the Adreno 840 GPU runs with two cores at 1.2GHz instead of three cores at 1.3GHz on the standard chip, which helps cut heat output and production cost.
Display and performance
The Redmi K100 Pro features a 6.59-inch AMOLED display with a 1156 x 2510 resolution, a 185Hz refresh rate and up to 4,500 nits of peak brightness. The screen supports Dolby Vision, HDR10+ and HDR Vivid. Performance comes from the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 V Series paired with up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and up to 512GB of UFS 4.1 storage; there's no memory card slot.
The Redmi K100 Pro is one of the first phones in the world to ship with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 V Series — a binned version of Qualcomm's flagship platform with fewer GPU cores.
Triple camera and Bose-tuned sound
The main camera module uses a 200MP sensor with optical image stabilization. It's joined by a 50MP telephoto lens with 2.5x optical zoom and stabilization, plus an 8MP ultrawide unit. The front camera is rated at 32MP.
The phone's audio system was tuned by Bose: a 2.1 stereo speaker setup with a rear subwoofer supports Hi-Res audio at 24-bit/192kHz.
Battery and durability
The Redmi K100 Pro is powered by an 8,580mAh silicon-carbon (Si/C) battery. The device supports 100W wired charging, 50W wireless charging and 27W reverse wired charging. The body carries an IP68/IP69 dust and water resistance rating.
The Redmi K100 Pro is now available to order in China. The base 12/256GB model costs CNY 3,699 (~$548), while the 16/512GB version costs CNY 4,699 (~$696).
Based on last year's pattern, when the Redmi K90 Pro and K90 Pro Max became the Poco F8 Pro and Poco F8 Ultra internationally, the Redmi K100 Pro could eventually receive a global Poco-branded version as well, though this hasn't been officially confirmed.
