Xiaomi Unveils Redmi 17 and Redmi 17 5G With 7,500mAh Batteries

Xiaomi has officially unveiled its global Redmi 17 lineup, comprising the base Redmi 17 and the Redmi 17 5G. Both devices target the budget segment and combine a larger battery, a spacious display, and an AI-powered camera. Xiaomi is positioning the series around everyday durability, from dust and water resistance to reinforced display glass.

A battery built to last all day

Both phones pack a 7,500mAh (typ) battery, a notable increase over previous generations in the lineup. According to Xiaomi, the Redmi 17 can deliver up to 28 hours of video playback, 91 hours of music playback, or 46 hours of calls, while the Redmi 17 5G offers up to 28 hours of 1080p video playback, 109 hours of music playback over Bluetooth earphones, and 53 hours of calls.

45W turbo charging brings the battery to full in 96 minutes, while a 35-minute charge is enough to get through a full day of use.

The Redmi 17 Series also supports 22.5W wired reverse charging, letting the phone power compatible accessories directly.

A large display with adaptive refresh rate

The series features a 6.9-inch display with a refresh rate that dynamically switches between 60Hz, 90Hz, and 120Hz depending on the task — a technology Xiaomi calls AdaptiveSync. The panel carries triple TÜV Rheinland certification and supports DC dimming to reduce eye strain during extended use.

The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 7i, while the body carries an IP64 rating against dust and water. Wet Touch Technology keeps the touchscreen responsive even when wet.

Performance and camera

The Redmi 17 runs on the MediaTek Helio G91-Ultra, while the Redmi 17 5G is powered by the Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 platform with 5G connectivity. Both models support RAM expansion up to 12GB via Memory Extension, and Xiaomi HyperOS 3 handles smoother animations and system responsiveness.

The main camera is a 50MP dual system with AI-assisted processing.

Both phones support simultaneous front and rear recording, letting users capture a moment from two angles at once.

Audio comes from dual stereo speakers with up to 300% volume boost.

Design and colors

The lineup adopts an updated design with a flat display, a matte frame, and a metal decorative element, giving the phones a look closer to Xiaomi's flagship devices.

A standout addition is the Dynamic RGB Light system, which reacts to calls, notifications, charging status, gaming, and camera use.

The Redmi 17 will be available in four memory configurations — from 4+128GB to 6+256GB — starting at $179, while the Redmi 17 5G will come in three configurations starting at $249.
